City Council meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month with special meetings called as needed. The meetings are conducted beginning at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 130 S. Second Street, Chowchilla, CA 93610.

The Chowchilla City Council consists of five members elected by the community. They set policy for city government, city services and economic development for the Chowchilla community to provide a safe, clean, and healthy way of life.
The City Council also enters into contracts including contracts and cooperative or joint agreements with other government entities on behalf of the municipal government. Further, it oversees the fiscal affairs of the City and approves and adopts the annual City budget. The Council also appoints members to various boards and commissions that serve the City.
The City Council works for the overall improvement of life for Chowchilla citizens that include:
- Efficient and cost effective public services
- The development of economic programs to increase employment by enhancing the visual aesthetics of the community
- Providing effective policy direction allowing for efficient administration of municipal operations
- Implementing programs that provide a positive plan for the future development of the City
- Working cooperatively with intergovernmental agencies, the Chamber of Commerce, businesses, and industry to assist in economic growth
The City Council gives policy direction to the City Administrator. The Council adopts ordinances to control the affairs of the City and provides policy direction for the enforcement of those ordinances. It may pass emergency ordinances for the immediate preservation or protection of public health, property, or safety.

Council Meeting Details
The City Council convenes their meetings jointly with the Redevelopment Agency on a regular basis. Those items that are to be acted upon by the Redevelopment Agency will be denoted with an asterisk on the meeting agenda. Joint City Council/Redevelopment Agency meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Special meetings can be called with a 24-hour notice. Notices of meetings and meeting locations are posted at the Civic Center as required by the Brown Act. Meetings are held in Council Chambers at the Chowchilla Civic Center.
Council meetings consist of several items of business. During Council meetings there is a time devoted to Public Address, which is a time set aside for the sole purpose of allowing members of the public to address the Council on items of interest that are not on the agenda and are within Council's jurisdiction. Each speaker is limited to three to five minutes. Council may or may not respond to comments; they are prohibited from taking action on items addressed during that time and not noticed on the agenda.
If a member of the public wishes to bring an item of interest to the Council's attention, they may do so under Public Address as noted above, or contact the City Clerk's Office to schedule an item for consideration on a Council agenda. In order to have items placed on an agenda, all information (including exhibits, handouts, etc.) must be received in the City Clerk's office 14 days prior to the scheduled meeting.
